Mykonos or Myconos is a very popular international tourist destination, known for its cosmopolitan character and intense nightlife. The island is part of the Cyclades, and lies between Tinos, Siros, Paros and Naxos, spanning an area of 105.183 km (41 sq mi) and rising to an elevation of 341 m (1,119 ft) at its highest point. The island is composed primarily of granite. Because of its limited natural fresh water sources it relies heavily on sea water desalination. It has a population of approximately 10.000 inhabitants most of whom live in Mykonos, also known as Chora, on the west coast of the island.
